Far from Home

The Pleiades is a very young star cluster—on the order of a few million years old. In "star years," this is a mere infant. The cluster consists mainly of hot, blue-white stars. These make a tintillating jewel-box of lights in the Taurus constellation, right behind the face of the bull (the much nearer Hyades Cluster plus Aldeberan).

In Stars in the NeighborHood software, this is one of the farthest points you can get from home. Looking back toward Sol remains a daunting task if you don't know where to look. Our sun, at this distance, is several magnitudes beyond naked-eye visibility.
