Show Select

This is not an unusual problem to have: the stars are so thick you cannot find that for which you are looking. Show select allows you to remove those star types which do not interest you so that you can see more when the stars are too thick.

Everything, Including the Kitchen Sink!

Here you have the Solar neighborhood, and the stars are thick. With all star types selected in "Show Select," we have 2,136 stars in the Viewing Cube. Most of these, as you can easily see, are red dwarfs.

If we are not interested in red dwarfs at the moment, one click removes most of the visual clutter.

Without Red Dwarfs

Removing red dwarfs from the Viewing Cube reduces the star count from 2,136 to 599 stars. It is much easier to see individual stars, now.

Just Right!

If, for instance, you want to view only mid dwarfs and hot dwarfs, we reduce the star count down to 427.

Naturally, this is not the only way to thin out the Viewing Cube. The other key way to improve visibility is to reduce the scale. In this example, we have looked at the Viewing Cube at the 32 parsec scale. Reducing it to 16, 8 or even smaller scale, makes it easier to see the individual stars.
