Extrasolar Planets

Astronomy Space Software - Space Stars in the NeighborHood: Viewing Cube with Planet Icons.
Viewing Cube with Planet Icons. Inset from Hood Tools, Planets checkbox.

Displaying Extrasolar Planet Systems

To see which stars are known to have planets, simply click on the "Planets" checkbox in Hood Tools. Easy!

The view at right shows the current set of stars in the Solar neighborhood which have planets. Well, that's almost right. Red dwarf stars have been omitted from this view simply because we would not have been able to see the "forest for the trees," so to speak. And a few of those red dwarfs have planets, too.

Astronomy Space Software - Space Stars in the NeighborHood: Viewing Cube with Planet Icons, centered on HD 10180.
HD 10180 has six known planets. Inset of Star Data panel shows this in a "Hot News Flash." Another inset shows a detail from a Star Query of all stars known to have planets.

More Ways to Find Planets

Another way to see which stars have planets is to do a Star Query on stars with planets. A planet icon shows up next to the tags column. And, when you click on the star icon to make it the new Focus star, you can see in the Star Data panel the Hot News Flash announcing how many planets have been discovered.
